Centerville is the Leon County seat, sitting where TX 7 crosses I-45 and TX 75. The town itself counted about 900 people at the last census. The 75833 ZIP around it holds roughly 3,300 people spread over about 255 square miles. That split is the paving story: a few blocks of town streets, then miles of county road and ranch drive.
JEJ Asphalt & Concrete Recovery is based in North Zulch. We come up through Madisonville and north on I-45 to work Leon County. We pave asphalt driveways at houses and ranch gates, build parking lots, lay chip seal, sealcoat and patch failed asphalt. Free estimates and a 3-year written warranty on new asphalt we install: call or text (979) 595-5944.

The soil survey maps the ground at the middle of town as a fine sandy loam. The top layer runs about 19 inches deep and is close to two thirds sand. Below that the clay content more than doubles and water moves slower.
Across Leon County the pattern repeats: a loamy or sandy surface over a mottled, clayey subsoil. Rain soaks straight through the top. Then it stops on the tighter layer under it and sits. A base holding water moves under a loaded truck, and the asphalt over it cracks.
Leon County is rolling country, 150 to 500 feet above sea level. Water gets moving on the slopes and stands in the flats. So the fall gets cut first, then the ditch line and the culvert, then the base is compacted. Asphalt goes on last.
Most people in the Centerville ZIP live outside the city limits, on county roads. That means quarter-mile drives off a gravel road. Gates sit back from the pavement, and turnarounds have to hold a gooseneck.
A drive that long is a road, not a driveway. It wants a crown so water sheds, a ditch on each side, and a culvert where it crosses. The road base under it gets built the same way whether gravel, chip seal or hot mix goes on top.
On ranch and hay places, chip seal often fits a long road better than hot mix. Emulsion is sprayed, rock is spread over it and rolled in. County and TxDOT crews call the same product seal coat. It is warm-weather work: TxDOT will not put a standard seal coat on a surface below 60 degrees.
Centerville sits on I-45 where TX 7 crosses it. The frontage roads carry the fuel stops, the restaurants and a motel. Those lots take interstate traffic all day. Trucks and trailers turn in the same spots and push the surface out of shape.
Truck lanes and turn-ins carry more load than the car stalls do. We build the heavier section where the trucks run and keep the stalls lighter. The grade is set so water leaves the lot instead of standing by a door. Striping goes back on after the asphalt.
Around the courthouse square the job is usually smaller. Older lots behind the storefronts need pothole repair and patching more than a rebuild. Where a lot stays in use, we plan the work in phases with you so the business can keep operating.
It depends on the road. TX 7, TX 75, FM 1119 and I-45 are state routes. A driveway onto state right of way goes through TxDOT on Form 1058, filed with the Bryan District. That district covers Leon County, the rules belong to the road owner, and we build to them.
On a county road, talk to your precinct commissioner before anything starts. Leon County lists a road use permit and a right of way permit. Ask the precinct what it wants for the culvert and the approach.
Inside the city limits, the City of Centerville runs its own streets and public works. Check with city hall first. On a private or POA road the owners decide, and the county does not maintain it. Several owners sharing one road can split a job by sections.
